Lacton is loud, oppressive, and industrious. Smoke hangs in the air, machinery never sleeps, and the river carries the lifeblood of the town’s economy, cargo. The city  is built on motion, on labour, on the promise that tomorrow’s shipment will always arrive.
Until now.
Because something has begun to slip through the cracks.
Warehouses stand locked and guarded, yet by morning their contents are simply… gone. No splintered doors. No shattered windows. Only confusion, unease, and the growing fear that something impossible is at work.
The mayor feels it. The merchants feel it. Even the guards, who swear nothing passed them, now watch the shadows a little too closely.
There are patterns, though they are not obvious at first. A faint scent like lightning in the air. A strange hum that lingers just beneath the noise of the city. Flickers of light, gone as soon as they are noticed.
And somewhere in the heart of it all, ambition festers.
